Kermode Friendship Society (KFS)REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS Totem Pole Indigenous Master Carver Kermode Honouring Our Children Commemorative Totem Pole Kermode Friendship Society is seeking proposals from local Master Carvers to create a 20-foot totem pole monument that will commemorate the lost Indigenous children, the children who survived the residential school experience, and their families. The monument will be in the form of and style of a traditional northwest cedar totem pole, to be erected on the property of the Kermode Friendship Society in Terrace, BC. The design is to incorporate the tribal groups of the North West BC and Metis to tell the tragic story of Indian Residential School era. The process of the pole carving will offer community engagements and visits during carving hours for community members. The successful carver will be working with Kermode staff, elders, and stakeholders, and be comfortable and experienced in an inter- cultural consultation The projected completion date of the project will be by September 30, 2021. Proposals will be evaluated on and must include: A cover letter that includes a short description on how the pole will incorporate the NW Tribal/Metis designs , the tragic Indian residential school era and commemorate the children who attended. A resume, A carving location, A proposed budget.
